Introducing The Content Collective

What started out as a business challenge a few months ago, has turned into a mission. One that is focused on solving a problem or plugging a gap in the industry.

What sparked the need?

Without sounding too cliched, the pandemic has changed the way the world works. Even the skilled freelance or gig economy has seen a transformation of sorts. Goremotely reports that the use of freelancing platforms has increased by 30 percent globally, and India has emerged as the fifth largest gig economy market after the US, China, Brazil, and Japan.

Content creation jobs are one of the most advertised gigs on any of the freelancing platforms. But, it is still a challenge to find the right match for the job that needs to get done. Also, there is no way to ensure quality, clear communication, adherence to deadlines, and other basic elements that ensure clients are getting what they pay for. Most freelancing platforms take no responsibility for this.

On the other hand, freelancers, find it increasingly painful and repetitive when they have to routinely pitch for jobs, justify the terms of their service, and/or negotiate the price. Not all clients are freelancing regulars and it is not easy having to explain the process and challenges to each of them.

As a Communications business owner, I too work with multiple freelance content creators, each with their own superpower. However, I realized that not all of them had the same level of understanding of 'Why' the content is being created. While they created something that was "to the brief", it did not necessarily match the client's objective.

There is no place that is exclusive to content creators to discuss, learn and share experiences so that they can adapt to the fast-paced and demanding digital world.

What is The Content Collective?

The Content Collective is our way to give back. It is about helping and supporting other content creators and also learning from them. It is about developing a deeper trust and understanding of each other's skills and capabilities. We truly believe that together we are stronger and wiser.

The Content Collective is for individual content creators (writers, videographers, designers, and, anyone with an appreciation for content) who understand that it takes meticulous planning, attention to detail, and an immense passion to create great content.

The Content Collective members learn, support, and build real connections with each other. They leverage complementary skills to deliver on projects and also find ways to collectively improve the quality of not just the content they create, but also the value of the creators.

There are a few simple rules we follow:

  • Listen first - This is absolutely at the core of the collective. We learn so much when we truly listen to each other. It builds trust, overcomes differences, and helps us really connect.

  • Help and Support Others - By helping another, you start to look beyond yourself, and realize that you have something to share. Of course, you can also lean on others in the community when you need help.

  • Be Real - This is about being ourselves and being human. The community is about real people making real connections.

Think of The Content Collective as a group of friends who all share a similar passion, and come together to support each other.

The Content Collective helps creators develop a sense of trust and understanding of each other's skills and capabilities. This can also become a space for clients to find content creators specific to their needs.
